SHP.TAR FILES:

These files were created with the UNIX TAR utility on a Sun Workstation from ARC/INFO version 3 shape files using the following command - 'tar -xvf (huc).tar ./(huc)' where (huc) is the Hydrologic Unit Code. They contains six files:

 

b(last seven numbers of Hydrologic Unit Code).shp, .shx and .dbf :

The banks coverage. Polygon representation of wide river sections, lakes, glaciers and other two dimensional water bodies. There are no attributes and the coverage is mainly useful for cartography.

Example: b7070101.e00 is the export of the banks coverage for huc 17070101 shown here, the Columbia R. between John Day and the mouth of the Snake R.

The streams coverage. Arc representation of the all linear water bodies. Centerlines are used to represent lakes, and other two dimensional features. Attributes are described in the PNW documentation.
