How To Download ARCEXPLORER And Use It To View PNWR 100K Reach Files

ArcExplorer is a free program which allows a user to view shape files, perform some queries, and produce simple map output. It is provided by Environmental Research Systems, Inc. as a browser type program for accessing geographic data. It can display both locally stored and online data, but at present STREAMNET is only providing the base data for a user to download. In the future, online access to the 100k data set will become available through a variety of delivery systems. You will need a computer with a 32 bit operating system ( Windows NT, 95, etc.) to run ArcExplorer.

STEP ONE:
Acquire and install ArcExplorer. The installation files and instructions are available at

http://www.esri.com/software/arcexplorer/index.html

STEP TWO:
Download hydrography for the area of interest. Use the navigation map on the previous page to find the right accounting unit, and the HUC descriptions to find the basin of interest. Download the 'SHP.ZIP' version of the hydrology, and simply double click on the file in Windows Explorer. This will decompress the shapefile, making it available to ArcExplorer. You may want to download the HUC BOUNDARY shape file as a reference coverage. Please consult the DOCUMENTATION page for information on projections measurement units in order to integrate the 100k hydrography with other geographic data.
