<title>StreamNet - Potential Fish Passage Barriers (October, 2013)</title>

StreamNet's Potential Fish Passage Barrier dataset captures both natural and man-made in stream features that have the potential to block fish passage (culverts, dams, debris jams, cascades, falls, etc.). Where information exists, fish passage ability is captured. This dataset is maintained and updated on an annual or semi-annual basis. The OCTOBER, 2013 publication dataset includes 63,399 features across the states of Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho. Where possible, all barrier locations are georeferenced to StreamNet's regionally standardized routed hydrography layer (MSHv3.1) enabling comparison and analysis of barrier locations within the context of StreamNet's larger data holdings (fish counts, hatchery returns, redd counts, harvest records, generalized fish distribution, etc.,). These data are available for direct download as spatial data and may also be queried online using the StreamNet Data Query System.
<purpose>This regionally-standardized dataset is a compilation of data contributed by StreamNet partner agencies as of OCTOBER, 2013. It is intended to support the need for a region-wide, best-available representation of the potential fish passage barriers affecting fish migration throughout the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, western Montana and California. The term 'potential' is used to highlight the fact that fish passage ability is coded as 'unknown' at a number of sites where a structure (eg., culvert) has been identified but its ability to pass fish has not yet been determined. Note: data users that are working on local projects solely within one of these states are advised to consult the particular state's source dataset as the state specific data may contain additional attributes of interest not available region-wide (see credits section for details). </purpose>
